Some informal remarks about tides and current in Kerteminde, given without garantee and to be used with care and uncertanity.

When water is raising the current goes into the harbour and and out off the harbour when falling.

Combined with a generally current going north in the belt, the result is whirling waters in Kerteminde Bay. There is few rules normally; but absolute not allways; observed.

  • Great Belt current going North and tide falling, the current is eastbound in the north and south part of the bay and going anyway in the middle
  • Great Belt current going North and tide raising, the current is westbound in south part of the bay and going anyway in the north and middle
  • Great Belt current going South and tide falling, the current ids westbound in the north and especially in the south part of the bay and going anyway in the middle
  • Great Belt current going South and tide raising, the current is eastbound in the north and westbound in south part of the bay and going anyway in the middle

The challenge is, that the racing area is in the middle and the rules is very unstable.
